Kilimanjaro is a huge mountain (the largest free-standing mountain in the world). Therefore, there are many routes one can take to get close to the peak, and there are three non-technical routes for the final 1,200 meters to the summit. | |

The shortest routes are not the best for two reasons:

The ascent presented here starts on the Shira Route. This view is the beginning of the Plateau, at 3.350 m. The trees are gone at this altitude, this is the most vegetation you will see from here on. You can guess where Mount Kilimanjaro is: hiding in the thick column of clouds straight ahead. |
