Mount Batur (Gunung Batur) is an active volcano. A minor eruption occurred in 1994 when it killed a few tourists that got too close. The last major eruption occurred in 1926. | |
Mt. Batur is 5,635 ft high (1,717 m). Climbing takes about 4-5 hours from the base. It usually starts at about 1-2 AM, to make the top by sunrise. Not a technically challenging climb, its main difficulties are the volcanic scree, commonly found in this type of environment and the chilly and windy weather at the top is climbing unprepared. |
